Collection: Heritage Rhode Island Reds

Heritage Rhode Island Reds (RIR):

There are two types of Rhode Island Reds: Production type and Heritage AKA 'True type'.

I offer Heritage RIR, bred to the Standard of Perfection (SOP). Preserving this beautiful heritage breed gives you the added bonus of allowing you to grow out extra males for your family. The production type are much smaller.

Large hatcheries breed RIR as a production type. These are meant to lay the most eggs; however, with this type of breeding the RIR are a much lighter red, not the deep lustrous red (burgundy) as the true type/Heritage breed.

You'll get a win, win, win with this bird. Good egg production, meat and the added bonus of exhibiting your birds.

They are incredibly sweet and friendly birds that make a perfect addition to your backyard flock or breeding program. RIR are wonderful around children and can very easily take a nap in your lap. They are even huggers.
