Australorp: Straight run ONLY

Australorp: Coming soon for 2027!

If you've been following along for a bit, you'll know that I primarily work with dual purpose breeds. I love the option of having €ggs and using extra males to fill the freezer. Providing you breeds that are self sustainable right in your own backyard is important to me. 

With that said, I frequently get asked for high production layers, specifically Leghorns and Australorps.

I have made the decision to add for the 2027 lineup:

Australorps! 🎉❤️🐔

Australorps are renounced for their egg laying abilities! The world record for eggs laid in 1 year by breed goes to the Australorp chicken. The record was set in 1922-23 for a hen laying 364 eggs in 365 days!!

My expectations for this line are around 250-280 eggs in their first year of laying.

Avg. POL: 22-24

Egg color: brown/tan 

I have really enjoyed working with them so far. They are very inquisitive birds, who like to be around their humans. They are excellent foragers! Their sticking red comb and wattles POP against their beautiful glossy black feathers and that iridescent green sheen.

I found this fun tidbit regarding the name 'Australorp' from a book I had read,

"According to some accounts [Author Harwood] coined the name 'Australorps' (to replace the long-winded title 'Australian Utility Orpingtons')"
